“Ecology without class struggle is just gardening.” – Chico Mendes
IN DEPTH:
It’s been ages since construction halted, and yet it feels like only yesterday since we started our work out here. It feels like we have barely started, but look how it has grown. Everyday we show up and work with this lot of land, and everyday it teaches us more about what is needed.
The Ace of Pentacles shows a beautiful communal garden in the foreground, and derelict cityscape glowing in the optimistic light of the sun setting on a long and full day. This is landscape that has been both neglected by the state and loved and cared for by people. It is lush and maybe even a little over-grown. Directly in front of the garden there is a large disembodied hand holding a coin to the light, almost as if they are about to place this coin like a seed in the ground. There is a profound energy and relative ease available to those that are ready to invest themselves. It is lush (and maybe even a little over-grown). The garden is perpetually in blossom, and the bounty it offers is endless—if you’re ready to put in the work. Yes it’s a lot to harvest, but the Ace of Pentacles encourages you to put the work in while it matters, while the fruit is still ripe.
