IN DEPTH:
The Seven of Wands shows a woman confronting a barricade of armed soldiers. She is completely out-numbered and over-powered, and yet she pushes onwards towards her enemy. She has lost too many of her friends and family to this psychotic military occupation. Having been pushed beyond the point of fear, indignation takes over. She throws insults and insinuations the way some throw stones. She screams, she demands the soldiers admit the culpability for the murderous State that they serve. One officer dismissively utters to the next, “she is insane. what is this crazy bitch even saying?” Now she begins yelling in english, “FREE PALESTINE!!! FREE PALESTINE!!!”
The refusal to understand, the refusal listen, the refusal to she her and her people as human is putting her over the edge with anger. It scares them a bit, but it scares her far more. It scares her, the feeling to fight burning so hot it might turn her every word to flame.
The only security she holds is that of the camera, documenting each move and any possible violation. Whatever happens in this moment the world will see. She is flustered, and gasps for her words. Knowing that while the camera protects her—her words might be twisted against their aims, turned into the screed of another ‘radical militant ji-hadist’. Exasperated and out of breath her words turn into ear piercing wails or grief and rage—impossible to misunderstand.
